The Best of The Doors - Jim Morrison. What do You guys think to be the finest moments of The Doors between 1965 and 1971.....they can be anything...a gig, an album or single, book or newpaper article or interview, TV show any historical moment in the Doors story......anything that made an impression with you as a Doors fan in the time you have been one.... Pick no more than Five to keep it difficult..... bloody hard I know but its there for you to give it a shot...... Here is my effort [glow=red,2,300]The Doors Strange Days album 1967[/glow]......this for me defined the band as what they would become legendary for...... [glow=red,2,300]The Danbury High School concert on October 11th 1967[/glow]......a wonderful example of The Doors live ......full of menace as the audience are not that keen that The Doors are there as they wanted The Four Seasons......mixing a bit of poetry as Tom Baker read before the concert began and Jim's performance which was sedate with moments of terror .......thats what Jim did best for me...exactly the opposite of what the audience expected. [glow=red,2,300]Mike Jahns book Jim Morrison & The Doors 1969.[/glow].....For the first time I was able to understand just what a Doors concert was actually about....never equalled! [glow=red,2,300]The Doors on The Ed Sullivan show 1967[/glow]....Jim Morrison shows he will not be a performing monkey for some dick in a suit......The Stones Britains legendary bad boys had shit their keks and cow towed to Sullivans bully boy tactics in 1965....Jim did not give a fuck.....a sublime moment in Doors history which the other three could do well remembering [glow=red,2,300]L A Woman 1971[/glow].......a momentous moment in The Doors story as the band pull together and produce one of the 70s finest LPs......not a wasted moment on the whole album and considering the crap they had put up with the last year or two an amazing feat from the four Doors...... I have been a Doors fan for about 1,5 years so there is probably a lot more for me to discover than what I know so far, but from what I have read, seen and heard…. 1) The version of Celebration of the lizard that is on the Doors in Europe video. That was one of the first thing I saw with the Doors and for me, they way Jim recited COTL made the hairs on my body stand up and I felt a chill from my spine going all the way up to my neck and my blood almost froze. I had not seen or heard anything like it, the intensity and the spooky voice got me hooked instantly. The second time I watched it I was on acid and all the doors in my mind opened and I remember sitting on the floor and then jumping up shouting “YES! YES! THAT’S IT! I GET IT! I KNOW! I UNDERSTAND!” It must have looked very strange for anyone who had seen it! 2) The book Break on through. That is where I discovered who Jim was and it affected me a lot. 3) The first Doors album, especially Break on through and The End. I knew I would never be the same person again. 4) Jim’s poetry. He opened up my blockings and made me dare to step forward and start writing my own stuff again. 5) The song When the music’s over, my favourite song with the Doors. I love watching the video of the Danish performance, it gives me some sort of comfort, it makes me very emotional.

Well, let's see. 1) Jim on the rooftop writing poems
2) Jim ingesting a shitload of acid & performing The End at The Whisky in that condition & adding the Oedipal section.
3) Light My Fire released as single & hitting a mass audience.
4) Jim vetoing the buick commercial-it could have spelled the end of the group as an artisitic entity & they would have been labeled as sell-outs & very probably nothing but an asterisk in rock annals
5) L.A. Woman truly a CLASSIC album, & consistently good throughout.

1. Jim's Poetry-Inspired me to write poetry.
2.The Whole L.A. WOMAN album-Great Lyrics throughout. Jim shone lyrically to me esp On"The Changeling" ,"Riders On The Storm" and my Fave Doors Song "L.A Woman".
3.The Miami Concert- I just LOVE Jim's Rant at the audience to me full of rage, passion and frustration at the audience for blindly accepting things, coming to see "Something" and not listen to a great band, coming to see a"Freak Show", I fully agree what with he said in that concert.
4.Ed Sullivan Show "LMF"- I Echo alex's comments.
5.The Doors on Danish Tv, The Best Ever performance i have saw of them on film. Doors at their best.

I'm a newbie to the Doors, so my exposure to the Door's performances/history is rather limited, but here are my choice. : 1.)The Ed Sullivan Show - shows how much integrity the Doors have, not just Jim, the other Doors didn't bet an eye when Jim sang that "higher" part, and it's obvious John is very into the music, singing(or mumbling ) along while he's drumming. 2.)The day when Ray met Jim on the beach - The birth of the Doors! Dare I say it's romantic? Not in the romance sense, but a fateful reunion that sparks so much great music. 3.)"When the Music's Over" in the Danish show - Uhh... haven't seen many live shows yet, but that one blew my mind. 4.)When Robby and Jim created "The End" together at Robby's home while his parents were away . I believe that would be a truly happy moment in their lives. They were not yet famous, but probably filled with youthful aspirations and creative energy. 5.)Jim's interviews just before he headed to Paris. It seems he's most truthful, perceptive and contemplative at that stage of his life. His intelligence shone through the interview. The interview is about Jim as well as the society of his time.

My personal favoriate... especially amusing if you've heard the Liquid Night boot. A verse into "Five To One" he busts out with this bit of classic ranting. YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF FUCKIN IDIOTS....... LETTIN PEOPLE PUSH YOU AROUND........ HOW LONG ARE YOU GONNA LET IT GO ON?........ HOW LONG?
MAYBE YOU LIKE IT... MAYBE YOU LIKE GETTING YOU FACE SHOVED IN THE SHIT.....
WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? WHADAYOU GONNA Dooooo?
Contary to the movie the band doesn't stop playing out of disgust.. they keep going during all this. The whole "ballroom days are over" bit continues.. john furiously pumps out the fills as Jim rants...... then finally Jim jumps in with his words.. as if it had all been planned.......... YO BALLROOM DAYS ARE OVAH BABE... If it werent for the terrible quality of the recording I'd say its entirely listenable. The rest of the set was pretty crappy tho.. especially Love Me Two Times.. which he sings almost entirely in one note. I would love very much to hear LMF from this... and the extended extended solo cause Jim zoned out.. but my boot doesnt have it.

1) The version of Celebration of the lizard that is on the Doors in Europe video. Talking bullshit as usual...it is not on the Doors in Europe video, it is on the A Tribute To jim Morrison video. Never mind me...

5 July 1968- The Hollywood Bowl
The crowd expets Jim to "do something" but Jim being Jim doesn't do what they expect and he just sings his balls off. One of the finest performances filmed and possibly ever. And the fact that so called "Doors experts "and critics pan the show makes it even better for this writer.
The dramatic pause and the hand over the eyes, that quirky smile.
" Mother, I want to...fuck you momma..."
" Gonna love you momma, all night long..."

I agree, i love this show...not the most exciting of jim's [erformances...but like you said he did the opposite of what people were expecting....which makes jim rock even more but he sang brilliantly...and i love the end performance from this show...stop that car!

My top 5 Door's Moments:
1. The Doors first album. Too me such a revolutionary album for the time. A real musical milestone.
2. Ed Sullivan LMF show. And not for Jim being a rebel for saying "higher" on TV. But showing his true artistic self by not compromising. Singing the song how it should be sung because that's how it was written. Jim shows integrity.
3. The End, Whiskey A Go-Go, Jim putting in the Oedipal section. The song finally coming together.
4. Fillmore East, 1968. Sound like one of The Doors best concerts. Hopefully we may get to hear it if Bill Graham recorded it.
5. Danish TV Special. The Doors played to perfection. Incredible job. So lucky to have that footage.

Here are mine:
* That Marcel brought Jim into my life, because of what he was telling about Jim and The Doors made me to read his poems, his biography and hearing their songs.
* To see Jim's grave for the first time in 1994, that was just amazing and still is
* Song The End, Marcel's favorite song.
* An american prayer, very beautiful album.
* And all of you people, all of you keeps Jim's spirit alive and thats great.

Hello , I am Jacky from Philadelphia,PA. My best Doors moments were the 1st. time I saw them in concert, at the Arena (Philadelphia)in the summer of 1969. We were in the balcony, so seeing the band was hard, I had to leave early. Standing outside of the Arena with the Doors still going strong..I knew nothing about them outside of "Light my Fire" and going to their concert was my friends idea. As I was getting furthur away from the auditorium...the music made me feel as though I came home. It was fresh, vibrant, it sparkled with an energy force that made me only want more. It was challenging and soothing, it told me to keep listening..it lofted thru the roof and I saw it light up the entire Philadelphia sky. It was beautiful.

That's cool....The Doors seemed to have liked playing Philly...... must admit I was a bit dissapointed at the 1970 one after hearing the gig but the 1969 one sounded like it was a good show from what I have read about it ...... I like the 1968 Philly gig better than the 70 one where Jim defends the young cop when the audience get on his (the cop) case during WTMO... 'Oh leave the poor kid alone' Jim says......'He's just doing his job. Just think what would happen. All those criminals and assasins'. rather ironic considering..... They surely broke the mould when they made that guy..... Good to see you here Jacky and good for you actually being able to say you saw The Doors..... ;D

Walls, hi! Good to be here...(if there is a Doors site ..count on Jacky to be there). The concert I was talking about was at the "Arena" at 45th and Market Sts. The only other one I know of (and was there) was one year later at the Spectrum...at that one I was roughly 15 feet from the stage...no more 'balconies' for this fan. Philadelphia loved the Doors, (it is a Doors kind of town) that may be why they liked playing here. At the Spectrum concert. . . Jim and the boys felt our respect and total awe of the band. We didn't disrupt or carry-on like some jag-off's in other cities. Jim seemed quite happy to be here, he smiled alot, and the show itself was (of course) awesome. In Frank's book "A Feast of Friends" opposite page 10, there is a shot of Jim in a Philadelphia hotel room. (That had to be the Arena concert). The only other one I know of was 1 year later at the Spectrum. Walls, did I miss one?
